GLAMPING RETREATS FOR BLACK WOMEN LEADERS

L.I.G.H.T the Way

OCTOBER 23 - 25, 2020 & May 21 - 23, 2021

When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." - Audre Lorde
Retreats

L.I.G.H.T = Love. Integrity. Grace. Healing. Trust.

We invite you to join us in a weekend glamping experience uniquely designed by and for Black women who lead various communities, organizations, schools, movements, and homes. Together we will create a nurturing space intended to rejuvenate our minds, bodies, and spirits. We'll identify and integrate the thoughts, emotions, tools, and practices necessary to continue to LIGHT the way for those we lead and love.

We are creating this leadership and wellness experience coast-to-coast!  Feel free to attend one or both! October 23 - 25, 2020, we heal on the West Coast at the serenely quiet Vallombrosa Center located in Menlo Park, CA. On the East Coast, L.I.G.H.T the Way will be held May 21 - 23, 2021 at the beautifully rustic Pearlstone in Reisterstown, Maryland--just north of Baltimore. Get ready to restore yourself in Mother Nature, bond with other magically powerful Black women in leadership, and engage in restorative wellness practices that will allow you to live and lead in even bolder ways.

ShaynA Renee Hammond

Shayna Renee_Logo-10.png

Shayna Renee Hammond is a leadership and life coach who has coached and developed thousands of school and senior leaders within the education and non-profit sectors for nearly 20 years. She serves as a faculty member of Goleman EI’s Emotional Intelligence Coaching Certification Program and is the Founder and CEO of Teach To Lead, a school leadership development organization dedicated to supporting school leaders in leading through the lens of racial equity. Through Teach To Lead’s support, schools across America have experienced unprecedented school growth and achievement outcomes, inclusive school and organizational cultures, and strengthened teacher and principal retention.

Inspired by the success of Teach To Lead in the education sector and her calling to raise global consciousness, Shayna recently founded Shayna Renee, a coaching and consulting practice dedicated to creating spaces, methods, and conditions for Black women in leadership to thrive. In this capacity, Shayna coaches individuals and groups of Black women leaders from around the globe in a research-based and experiential-supported coaching methodology created by and for Black women. Shayna Renee’s methodologies and spaces inspire and equip Black women in leadership to rejuvenate their minds, bodies, and spirits so that they can lead more authentically, effectively, and sustainably.

Prior to founding Teach To Lead and Shayna Renee, Shayna led the national development of teacher leaders at KIPP Foundation, supported principals within the Baltimore City School System, led the highest-performing middle school in Baltimore, Maryland, and was an award-winning teacher.

When Shayna isn’t coaching, facilitating, or leading, she’s enjoying quality time with her two children, Judah and Joelle, learning a new sport, showing up for her Tribe, or exploring a new venue for spiritual growth and renewal.

Tovi C. Scruggs-Hussein

Tovi C. Scruggs-Hussein is a visionary educator, author, and award-winning urban high school principal with over 25 years of emotional intelligence training.  She cultivates conscious, connected, and courageous leaders internationally who recognize their calling to BE more. She believes that in order to successfully transform schools, organizations, and the cultures we lead, we must first successfully transform ourselves.

Deemed “Goddess-at-Work,” Tovi’s transformative, interactive workshops uniquely combine healing modalities of inside-out work, mindfulness, equity, leadership principles, and embracing one’s unique purpose to co-create and reveal what she terms “professional spirituality” – the vision, skills, practices that enhance your work and leadership.  Her programs have culminated into her signature work of “integral self-mastery,” which is spiritually conscious leadership development.

Intuitively, Tovi knew that the key to leadership success was self-awareness and personal growth and development - and not what she could traditionally find being offered by our public educational system.  Using this deep knowingness, Tovi has earned her Certified Integral Coach designation by New Ventures West, is a certified emotional intelligence coach, and certified with Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute. Tovi is dedicated to bringing emotionally intelligent, mindful leadership to the leaders in our classrooms, schools, and service organizations all over the world.  Further, Tovi was personally trained by Dr. Brene Brown as a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator.

Before returning to full-time entrepreneurship, Tovi was California’s Regional Executive Director at Partners in School Innovation, where she led regional teams to improve educational outcomes in the nation’s lowest-performing schools. Further, Tovi served as ACSA’s State Equity Region 6 Representative and the co-founding director of the ACSA Equity Leaders Academy.  Tovi is a co-founding teacher of the course, “Trauma-informed Leadership with an Equity Lens,” at Mills College’s School of Education, where she uses research-based best-practices of adult learning to develop emotionally intelligent and SEL-influenced educators with strong leadership capacity to ensure that we educate the whole child as well as support educators to live lives with greater peace, ease, and resilience. Tovi co-founded an independent Black school with 100% college-going rates and then took those practices to scale to become an award-winning urban high school principal who led a complete school transformation with scalable, replicable strategies.

Tovi speaks nationally and is the National President of the Coalition of Schools Educating Mindfully.

Tovi enjoys living in Oakland, CA with her husband, forest-bathing in the Redwoods, road-tripping the coastlines, inviting deep-silence and even deeper conversations, and walking in her purpose world-wide.
